Burnham Overy Staithe SC Draft Minutes of Committee Meeting on Sat 28th July 2007, chez Jerry Present: Jerry Clark; Peter Beck; Claire Wathes; Paul Goakes; Owen Bentley; Ben Goakes; Andrew Storer; Chris Geering; Dave Cooper 1. Apologies for absence: Ashley Deakin, Alex Scoles 2. Matters arising from meeting of Sat 19th May: JAC/ The Rob Austin Trophy, mentioned at previous meetings, had handed to the club recently by Klaus Schiller. It will need a suitable base to carry plates for engraving the names of winners. It has been agreed that one of the Schiller `children`, who knew Rob Austin, will present the trophy after the race on Sat 25th. JAC/ School Sailing day had taken place in suitable weather, with about 15 children plus accompanying adults. The Head teacher had written a letter to thank all the club members who took part. Ben Goakes had kindly installed the fixed radio on the safety boat, and renewed the steering cable. Both are working well. PB/ Repair of the safety boat trolley has been needed, and Wensum Engineering have been asked to quote for a new trolley. CG suggested we should also invite a quote from a new local firm involving ex-staff of Wensum. (Contact details to be supplied). Watch Purchase/ Not yet made. Action/JAC to check with Alex. 3. Sailing Programme: Numbers have been generally satisfactory, although turnout was down for the clinker weekend and the Jubilee Pennant. There are still some gaps on the Safety and OOD roster. The cttee discussed qualifying ages for the `Overy Jerry` (one or both 60) and Ancient Mariners (joint 130) Trophies. The `Roaring Forties Trophy was not a BOSSC Cup, and has probably disappeared. It was probably last put on by Tony Deakin, but it is not clear who then had the trophy. 4. Social Programme: August Disco: BG reported that arrangements are in hand for Sat 25th August. Ticket prices will be £10, or £5 for children < 10y. JAC has signed the usual hire agreement. Provisional date for Prize Giving is 5 Jan 2008 5. Sailing Course/ buoys: PB reported he had recently moved the Turning mark closer to the start line, and the other buoys into deeper water. B had been moved prior to the Sharpie/clinker weekend. PG suggested an additional buoy further up Norton Creek, to offer a better beat in SW winds. Changes to race times/dates and courses could be displayed on a blackboard below the usual notice board. Action PB/JAC. PB remarked that the moorings seem to be encroaching on the Fairway, and it is increasingly difficult to sail the last few hundred yards up to the finish. Race officers should be prepared to shorten course at the start line to ease the problems for the slower boats, particulary in southerly winds. Action/JAC to write to Harbour Trust, re Fairway problem. 6. AOB: The Regatta prize Giving will be on Sat 18th Aug, after the Haines Cup. AD has suggested an informal session on rigging and tuning: he would look after the Lasers, and appropriate `experts` would be asked to look after the other classes. The best dates appear to be in the period 11 to 14 August. Perhaps 2h before the scheduled race start. Action/JAC fix date and time with AD, and ask the boathouse if we can use space in their boat park for classes other than the Sharpies. OB offered to repeat the potted rules/invitation to race notice of last season: agreed. Date of next meeting, as required
